Term 5

Highlights of Term 5

  • Exploring our gross motor skills on a bouncy castle.
  • Finding out about the NSPCC and the ways to stay safe
  • Raising money for the NSPCC by taking part in a sponsored ‘Keep Fit’ circuit. Year R raised by money by playing team ball skills, learning to skip, talking part in a relay race and doing an obstacle course!
  • Learning about minibeasts as part of our learning topic.
  • Pairing up with our Year 4 buddies from the Junior School twice. The first time we went to visit their frog pond to find tadpoles, frogs and frog spawn. This helped us to learn about the frog life cycle. Together we also made some origami frogs. The second time we saw our buddies, they visited us in our HIVE. We made dens, climbed trees and helped create fire.
  • Reinforcing our number skills such as sharing and halving.
  • Making a new hall board based on our Characteristics of Effective Learning characters. Our chosen character was Reggie the Resilient Rhino. We made our display using our fine motor skills including printing, cutting, painting, sticking and folding.
  • Learning, practising and performing a class dance for our Inter School competition based on Disney songs. Class One’s music was from the Jungle Book, Class Two’s was from Moana and Class Three’s song was from Tangled. We showed our dances to each other and the winners performed theirs to the whole school. This year the Year R winners were Class Two. We then performed each of our dances to our parents and carers.
  • Watching our school adults perform their own Disney dance.
  • Developing our writing skills through recounts and list writing
  • Smiling our cheesiest grins in our class photos.
  • Taking part in a whole school circus day. We watched fantastic tricks involving unicycles, juggling and balancing. This inspired us to explore new resources and try new skills such as plate spinning, balancing on ‘tightropes’, juggling and peddling on different bikes and boards during Learning Through Play.
  • Learning our final trigraphs and digraphs in phonics
  • Being active as part of a scooter day by bringing in our own scooters to use around our playground. We learned some easy tricks and took part in a range of scooter skill based activities.
  • Having a non-school uniform day in exchange for items for the school summer fair
  • Consolidating tricky words on our word wheels and having a go at spelling them
  • Challenging ourselves with a half term challenge!
