Herne Infant and Nursery School
Technology is being developed every single day so we aim to provide our children with the most current software that is available and suitable for them. In our computing curriculum we immerse our children in a range of technology experiences. They have opportunities to explore our school computers, IPads as well as our exciting virtual reality headsets. The technology we have access to enables our teaching staff to use our special equipment to enhance not only our computer curriculum but also other areas of the curriculum as well, such as literacy and mathematics.
There are three main strands within the computer curriculum; computer science, digital Literacy and information technology.
Computer science provides the children with an understanding of how technological devices work. They then use their understanding and knowledge to program devices such as Beebots. Within this strand, children are also taught how to create and debug simple programs.
Digital literacy teaches the children how to use technology safely and respectfully. Within this strand, we also cover online safety where the children learn what to do if they find content that is inappropriate and how to keep personal information private.
Information Technology is all about how to use technology purposefully to create, organise, store, manipulate and retrieve digital content. Within this area, the children explore multimedia; word processing; digital media such as paint, and music and sound and much more.
