Welcome to the Herne Parent Council page
We are a group representatives from each year group, including the nursery, who meet regularly as a voice for parents.
There are 4 responsibilities in our role:
Parent Voice – Herne is a great school, but like every school we don’t always get things right. We welcome feedback, positive and constructive and your views and opinions on how to develop our school. Parent voice is essential to the school. Parents can talk to a parent council representative who will either bring the message to the monthly meeting or they will direct you to the appropriate person to talk to.
Herne Family socials – At Herne we are one family. We aim to have events where we can get to know each other and develop our strong links across the school. The relationships being built are extremely important to the life of our school.
Communications – We work with the school to develop the communication with parents. The school council have created a ‘Frequently asked questions’ leaflet for anyone new to school. A parents guide to daily routines and what to expect!
Fundraising – We aim to organise a few events every year to raise funds for particular things in school. Many of our fundraisers are fun family events. We work closely with the Junior School and St Martin's Church to create the summer fair each year.
We would welcome new members to the council. We ask you to commit to being on the council for a year, meeting monthly/new termly (usually on a Tuesday or Wednesday at 8pm) and to join a sub team (either events or communications). It is a very rewarding role.
If you prefer to help on occasion we are always looking for people who could bake cakes, man stalls, set up for events, make tea and coffee etc. Please let a member of the Parent council know if you would like to be added to a list of willing volunteers!
Events to look forward to… and put in your diary ....
30th June 2018 - Summer Fair - 11 am - 3 pm
13th July 2018 - Family Picnic - 3.05 pm - 4.15 pm
Bingo & Easter Egg Hunt
Thank you to all the Herne families who attended our previous events. These were again successful family events created by the Parent Council bringing school and community together through fun activities. Children enjoyed squash and biscuits while filling their bingo sheets and hoping for a full house and had great fun hunting the Easter eggs! Approximately £130 was raised which has enabled the school to purchase a mini outdoor Sound System with Bluetooth Microphone. Thank you for coming and please look out for future family events.
The Parent Council fundraising has helped school to fund a visit from ‘Dinosaur Pete’ and funded some small world dinosaurs to enhance the project work in the Autumn term.
You can see that the children have had great fun with this project and your support for the
Parent Council events is greatly appreciated.
