Handwriting

The children are continuing to develop their fine motor skills in Year One. Children daily take part in activities such as playdough, threading, using pegs, cutting, tearing and scrunching materials as well as forming handwriting patterns to support the development of their fine motor skills and strengthen the muscles in their hands. In addition the children take part in Writedance, yoga and wake up and shake up dances in order to develop balance and core strength needed for successful writing. The children are still referring to the cursive handwriting patterns that you are familiar with from Year R but we are now focusing on the joining and orientation of letters.

Here are copies of our Handwriting and cursive script sheets so that you can support your child at home.
