This year we have employed a designated Lunchtime Playleader from Premier Sport The role is to organise and design interesting, varied and enjoyable lunch time activity sessions. The Playleader will supervise, lead and assist the children in their play, initiating games which encourage good behaviour and fair play. Storage for the equipment has also been redesigned to ensure it is safe and well maintained.
Our aim is always to continue high quality learning throughout the school day.
Our child play leaders support Mr James by helping to set up and put away resources, check on children who appear to be alone and contribute with ideas for activities. They help to lead games and are highly visible in their light blue jackets. In addition, regular meetings between adults both formally and informally together with daily discussions will ensure that development of our activity levels continues.
At the end of lunch time we will soon be trialing Wake Up and Shake Up sessions or peaceful back massage to music which brings the whole school together in order to calm and collect the children ready to continue their class-based learning in the afternoon.
The impact is measured in terms of children’s improved levels of positive well-being, the increased number of smiling, enthusiastic faces, the raised quantity of laughter heard and the readiness for learning at 1 o’clock.
A huge thank you to our wonderful lunch time staff and to Premier Sport for the way they embrace the challenges of improving the lunch time experience for everyone.
